An Hydroponic Garden in Five Easy Steps
Setting a hydroponic garden is not that hard, as some beginner gardeners might
consider. First of all, let's clarify what a hydroponic gardening is about. The
main idea behind it is to grow plants without using soil. This lowers
maintenance and especially for commercial growers its a way to have complete
control over the food supply for the crop.
So it all comes down to growing plants without soil, but

still providing plants
powerful nutrients. In a hydroponic garden, the plant's roots are immersed into
a mixture of water and certain nutrient aggregates while being supported by
sand/gravel.
The fun part about this type of growing is that it's so easy to use! All you
have to do is make sure the plant has enough nutrients in the pot.
There are
two different type of hydroponic systems. An active and a passive
variety. As you can actually guess in an active systems nutrients are
mechanically circulated through the system. A passive one that has no pumps or
mechanics.
Now this is how it works. Here are the Five steps to a passive hydroponic garden
Prepare your materials
1 planting pot with drainage wholes
1 absorbing wick for hydroponic systems
1 support table for the pot (with a whole for fitting the pot in)
Medium for the plant (like sawdust or sand)
1 gallon bucked which will play the role of the reservoir
This system will draw the nutrient solution from the reservoir, up to the medium
of the plant, consequently to the plant's roots.
- Put the wick into the pot and make sure it lines the wall of the pot and
goes down to the bottom, through the drainage wholes.
Add the medium
Put the wick and the pot into the whole in the table, than place the
reservoir under the planting pot.
- Insert the wick into the bucket and check if it's completely under water.
Usually, it takes about one hour for the medium to become damp. Then it's the
perfect time to add the plant into the pot.
As you can see, a hydroponic garden is easy to set up and your plant will
benefit from the best nutrient solutions by using a simple, yet very effective
system.
